Lost Snowmobiler

Pierce, WA
2007-02-25

Mission Report by Fran Sharp

Pre mission Operations Leader Report:  Called by Pierce County DEM at 4:30 A.M. for lost snowmobiler missing since 3:00 P.M. on the 24th. Meet at Greenwater Fire Dept at 6:30 A.M.

Members responded to the Government Meadows Sno Park for the search by 0630.  The subject had minimal gear and had been missing since 1500 Saturday afternoon.  Two teams were deployed by snowmobile to the High Point area outside of Government Meadows.  Both snowmobiles were used with tobaggans and carried 6 rescuers and 2 drivers.  As the team started their search down a steep slope with likely avalanche hazard, the subject was found further down the road.  He had buried his machine and decided to stay with it rather than try to walk out at night.  At first light, he hiked towards the road closest to him.  A Deputy on snowmobile found him while running the roads.  The subject was in good condition.

The team at base headed up to the cabin to meet the subject and bring the snowmobile ambulance.  The subject was brought out by GSSD's snow-cat.  All returned to base and were out of the field by 1500.

Respectfully submitted,

Fran Sharp, OL
