Search for lost female at Fairfax Bridge

Pierce, WA
2007-07-06

Mission Report by Tyler Severy

Operations Chairman prelimanary report: The unit was contacted by the Department of Emergency Management to provide members to search the area of the FairFax Bridge on the North side of Mt. Rainier for a Lost 62 year old female who had been missing since July 4th

Unit responded to search for a potential Suicide jump from the bridge. After conducting visual search from the bridge to water area below (approx 300 feet) we set up several lower systems on a logging road adjacent to the river. We lowered an attendant down to creek level to visually search the rivers edge for any signs. After several hours of searching with this method, darkness stopped operations until Saturday morning. We met at the bridge Satuday morning at 0800 and it was decided not to put any more teammates at risk for a subject that is likely deceased as the terrain is dangerous. We searched for signs of a jump under the bridge as well as the surrounding area along the roadside where the subject had left thier car. The terrain around the area is extremely steep and overgrown, the water below presents such hazard that getting too close to it is not an option.
